Establishment of the Thematic Working Groups of the National Rural Network of Moldova

On Friday 9th November 2018, the “Technical Assistance for the implementation of the Sector Reform Contract: European Neighborhood Programme to Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD)” project in colaboration with the National Rural Network of Moldova (NRN), organised a workshop on the “Establishment of the Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) of the National Rural Network (NRN) of Moldova” in the Jazz Hotel, Chisinau.

The Workshop was organized with the objective of launching the following three permanent Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) of the NRN:

  1. TWG 1. Agriculture and Environment, with the specific topic for this year: “Irrigation and sustainable use of underground waters”;
  2. TWG 2. Food processing, with the specific topic for this year: “On farm processing of small scale traditional agrofood products”;
  3. TWG 3. Rural Development with the specific topic for  this year: “Rural Tourism – challenges and perspectives for new job opportunities in rural areas”.

In each of the workshop, participants discussed and approved their Thematic Group Mandate by analysing the topics, identifying the critical issues and main problems linked with above specific topics, exchanged experiences and finally elaborated their Work Plans for the next trhree months. In order to support the TWGs, the TA to ENPARD project will recruit three experts, who will lead the work of the TWGs and be responsible for the elaboration of the final reports. All the 3 Reports will be presented in a special Conference scheduled to take place in March 2019.

The newly established National Rural Network of Moldova (29th June 2018) unites  civil organizations and public administrations involved in agriculture and rural development field under an “institutional umbrella”.  It aims at facilitating and strengthening participation in policy dialogue within the national agro-rural context, increasing the participation of civil society in the implementation and monitoring of the National Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development (NARDS) and strengthening Network members’ competencies to influence and monitor public policies by promoting fair policies for competitive and innovative agriculture.

The creation of the National Rural Network is a collaborative initiative between the projects: a) “Technical Assistance for the implementation of the Sector Reform Contract: European Neighborhood Programme to Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) and b) “Facilitating active engagement of the civil society actors in the agro-rural policy dialog”. Both projects are financed by the European Union Delegation in Moldova. The beneficiary of both projects is the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE).
